Sony Ericsson XPERIA X2


Sony Ericsson has announced yet another phone in the XPERIA series – the XPERIA X2. The announcement was made early this September and the phone is expected to hit the market this November.

The XPERIA X2 has got virtually everything that a typical mobile power user requires. Starting from a large 3.2 inch 800×480 pixel screen to an 8 Megapixel camera, the phone stands out from the crowd with advanced features. Moreover, the phone will run on Windows Mobile 6.5 which is expected to release early this October as per Microsoft.

The X2 sports a resistive TFT TouchScreen of 65K Colors with a screen resolution of 800×480 pixels and is of 3.2 inches. The phone has an internal memory of 110MB and is expandable using a microSD card up to 16GB. The memory can be used for storing Music and Video of most common codecs, including XviD. The phone, as it runs on Windows Mobile 6.5, has support for PocketOffice to carry your Word Documents, Spreadsheets, Presentations, OneNote & PDFs.

The phone features an whopping 8 Megapixel Camera that can takes shots of up to 3264×2448 pixels on its auto-focus camera with LED Flash. What’s more, there’s touch-focus too, point an object to emphasize it (smudges the background) and shoot pictures. Moreover, it’s equipped with face detection, smart contrast, image stabilizer and geo-tagging. Video recording is at 30FPS (Frames Per Second) and the phone sports a secondary camera too.

Coming to Connectivity, the phone supports standard GPRS and EDGE. Additionally, the phone has support for 3G HSDPA of 7.2MBPS and 802.11b/g WiFi. For file transfer, the phone features high speed Bluetooth with support for A2DP (Music over Bluetooth) and USB File Transfer.

As said above, the phone runs on Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional on a Qualcomm 528MHz Processor. X2 brings the new ‘XPERIA Panels’ interface. Just like the iPhone, X2 displays SMS messages in a threaded view format. Like it’s predecessor, this one sports a QWERTY keyboard too. Additionally, there is TV Out and a 3.5mm Audio jack. With all these packed, the phone weighs 155g and regarding the price, it is rumored that it would cost roughly £600 GBP (that comes to roughly $980 USD and Rs. 46000 INR). A retailer, Expansys, has a price tag of £604.99 GBP.
