Google Turns 11

It’s September 27, and California-based Google celebrates its 11 birthday today, though, according to Google Wikipedia article, the founded date is said to be September 4th 1998 and the domain’s WhoIs says that it was registered on the 15th of September 1997. Google expresses this by its new logo (Goog11e) that you can find on the search page. The new logo is in effect in most part of the world, and it was available early today in India (IST – +0530 from GMT).

Goog11e Logo The name “Google” originated from a misspelling of the word “googol”, which actually is a mathematical term for a 1 followed by 100 zeros and this is obvious by the immense quantity of search results that appear when you search on Google.

Though, at first, it was just a meta search engine, it later expanded its wings with Advertising (AdWords & AdSense), Mail, Docs, Calendar, Videos, Maps, Shopping (Froogle), Groups, Code, Reader, Picasa and more. Also, Google owns a popular Mobile Operating System named Android, a mobile phone Google G1, a Browser named Chrome and a future OS named Chrome OS.
